Membership to Alumni Association |
Association Aims:
1. To promote professional education for nursing at the Columbia University
School of Nursing and the professional practice of nursing by its graduates
through support of nursing education, research, advocacy for practice, community
service, and promotion of collegial and supportive relationships among the
members of the Association.
a. Collaborate and/or coordinate with the School of Nursing in activities that promote communication, networking, research, education and practice.
b. Provide vehicles for advocacy, collegiality, community services, and liaison between the alumni, and graduate and undergraduate students.

When do we meet?
1. Annual Spring meeting on Alumni Day.
2. Classes have a reunion
every 5 years.
3. Acquaint yourself with the Regional Alumni group near you. New Regional
Groups are in development.
How is the Association supported?
1. By earned income on our investments.
2. By members' dues of $25 (paid each fiscal year beginning July 1)
that support our office expenses.
3. By contributions to the Distributing Fund to help defray Reunion
and other expenses.
4. By gifts to the Association's Scholarship or other special funds.
What is the Association's focus and how is it different
from the school?
1. Legally they are separate entities;
2. The Association's major focus is to benefit the Alumni - through networks,
scholarships, and other activities;
3. The School's major focus is recruiting and educating students, building
a strong faculty and curriculum;
4. The Association's second focus is to help the School accomplish its
goals, when it is invited to help and when it can.
Who is Eligible?
Membership shall be open to all graduates of the School of Nursing of the
Presbyterian Hospital in the City of New York, all graduates of the School
of Nursing, Columbia University, and to all members of the unincorporated
body known as "The Alumnae Association of The Presbyterian Hospital Training
School for Nurses in the City of New York" at March 10, 1899. Such members
shall be known as "Regular Members." Regular Members who have paid all dues
and assessments imposed by the Board of Directors on a current basis shall
be known as "Active Members." Persons not eligible for Regular Member status
may be elected to be "Honorary Members" by the Members eligible to vote. Only
Active Members shall be entitled to vote; Regular Members and Honorary Members
shall not be entitled to vote. The Board of Directors may establish such other
criteria and conditions of membership as it may deem appropriate.
Membership Policies
The Membership Committee shall maintain and increase the numbers
of active members of the Association; maintain mutually helpful relations
with current students and the School's administration; and help to keep
lines of communication open with all alumni. The Committee will consist
of a Chairperson and whatever number of members are needed to accomplish
the tasks set forth. In the future these members might be regional representatives.
As a group the Committee meets twice annually or as needed and has an
open phone network.
